Wagering on future bets
Wagering on futures is just like a traditional bet where your action is related to a specific event. Wagering on futures is more involved with knowledge, and about predicting the future outcome of the game, exactly as the name implies.
Wagering on futures is just like a traditional money line bet. You wager a certain amount of money and if you win, you receive your payout depending on the odds when you placed the wager. However, a futures bet is different in this one feature: you’re betting on an event that is taking place sometime in the future (hence the name, futures bet). So instead of selecting one of two teams to win in a specific game, you’re selecting one team out of all teams to win the entire series/championship. For example, a futures bet could look like taking the Jets to win the upcoming Super Bowl, or betting on England to win the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Usually these bets are made far ahead of time when the odds are still ripe. As time progresses, the odds change and will not present the same value they did in the beginning. If you get your odds early on, you’ll have great value. The only problem is, of course, if you bet on a team in the preseason you aren’t really seeing the team play at its fullest, and you may be placing the wrong bet. If you wait longer to see which teams begin to do well, you’ll be placing a better wager but the odds will have moved.
The futures lines can change at any time, and it’s not unheard of for a preseason longshot to come around for the win, such as the 2007-2008 NFL season. Everyone remembers when the Giants made a complete turnaround from just barely making the playoffs as a 5 seed to beating the undefeated AFC champions, the New England Patriots, in the Super Bowl XLII. Those who were lucky enough to bet on the Giants received enormous payouts.
There are wagering future odds also for major horse races, including the Triple Crown races, tennis and golf future wagers are included for majors as well. You can always do wagering on future bets on auto racing, Olympics, and other events like the Grammy awards.
