December 2nd, 2009 1 comment

Battle of the big cats Lions at BengalsIf you ever wanted to know who would win in a fight between a lion and a tiger …well, you’ll have to keep waiting to find out.  But in such a matchup of big cats in the NFL there should be little question that the Bengals will have their way with the Lions. In fact there is no wider NFL football odds spread in the week 13 action than this game.

The home team, Cincy, is favored by 13 points, which is awfully wide, but so is the gulf between these two teams.  Read more…

Jags at Niners will be an intriguing matchup

Jags at Niners will be an intriguing matchupAt first glance the NFL football odds aficionado might be confused when he or she takes a look at the NFL odds for the Jacksonville Jaguars at the San Francisco Forty-Niners in week 12.  The Jags (6-4) are 3 underdogs to the host Niners who at 4-6 have struggled all year.

But wins and losses in the NFL football odds don’t always tell the whole story and the jags are the softest 6-4 team in football odds history.  Perhaps that’s a bit of hyperbole but when you take a look at the teams that the Jags have played and a decent team would probably 8-2 against the pushover opponents.

Bengals look to keep rolling against the Raiders

November 20th, 2009 No comments

The Bengals are coming off one of the franchises biggest regular season wins in over a decade, maybe in its history. The team now has one game lead in the AFC North, a fast track to the NFL football odds post season and seems to be on top of the world. Perfect recipe for a let-down and a loss in the NFL odds. But not this week. Not against a rotten Oakland Raiders team.

True the Raiders have pulled off some very surprising wins this season including a thrashing of a talented Eagles team that also came to the Bay and was sent home with a loss after an impressive win over a division rival to take the lead in the NFC East.

Lightening isn’t likely to strike twice, but it’s not impossible. The Raiders finally benched QB JeMarcus Russell after the worst performance by a starting QB in perhaps the history of football odds. The offense will automatically be improved simply by this benching. So that’s a point in Oakland’s favor. Read more…

Seahawks in Store for an Old Fashioned Beating at Vikings

Seahawks in Store for an Old Fashioned Beating at VikingsIn an NFL football odds season where we’ve seen the disparity between the league’s ‘haves’ and ‘have-nots’ widen to previously unseen levels. This match up is a perfect illustration between the gulf of talent that now exists between the NFL football odds’ best and worst teams.

The Seattle Seahawks are an awful team and the Minnesota Vikings are perhaps the best in the NFL odds. When these two teams meet in week 11 in the Metrodome the result should hardly be in doubt.

The Vikings will this game because they’re simply a much better team. The only question is how bad will the damage be?

The early football odds on this game favor the home team by 11 points. That’s a big spread, but it might not be big enough to accurately reflect the talent disparity between the two teams.

Eagles Face a Stiff Challenge at Chargers

November 13th, 2009 No comments

Browns Eagles FootballThe Eagles are team of many different identities this NFL football odds season. They are team that when firing on all cylinders is capable of putting more big plays than any other offense in football.

They are also a team that got blown out by Raiders, yes Raiders. And on Sunday this team has a very tough challenge in San Diego and if the offense is putting up big plays this team will lose.

San Diego got off to a rotten start but have now turned things around and are one of the hottest teams in NFL football odds at the moment. Phil Rivers is playing great as usual and the defense is starting to look like it knows what it’s doing. Shawn Merriman is finally healthy again for the first time all season and his sack totals have improved accordingly. The secondary, perennially a sore spot with this team has also looked much better.
